As part of the preparations for Albania’s first participation in the international survey “TALIS 2024”, an international assessment of teaching and learning, the training of teachers, school leaders, and coordinators has begun.
Today, the Minister of Education and Sports, Ogerta Manastirliu, attended the training, which is taking place at the “1 May” school, and then held a meeting with the teachers, principals and coordinators participating in this training.
“Albania is participating for the first time in an international evaluation for teachers, “TALIS 2024″, a survey conducted by the OECD to measure the quality of teaching. I believe that this training is also very important for you. We want to measure the quality of teaching in the country, and this measurement tool that should guide us in making decisions for the revision and redesign of current and new programs,” Manastirliu said.
The survey, which is conducted by the OECD every five years, aims to collect important data to help countries develop education policies and improve the quality of education.
The trainings are organized by ASCAP structures and aim to prepare teachers and school leaders to complete the survey instruments. So far, more than 3,000 teachers and school leaders from different regions of Albania have been trained, including Tirana, Korca, Durres, Lezha, Fieri, Berat, Shkodra, Dibra, Elbasan, Puka, Lushnja and Kamza. These trainings are part of the first phase, which will cover 280 9-year schools throughout the country. The first phase of information sessions throughout the country began on January 8 and will continue until January 19.
After this first phase, the second and third phases of training will begin, including the selection of teachers who will be trained to participate in the “TALIS 2024” assessment.
This is a challenging process to ensure an advanced and quality education system in Albania that focuses on the professional growth of teachers and preparing students for the challenges of the future. According to the Minister of Education and Sports, Ogerta Manastirliu, the national programs that are now being developed are designed to meet this goal.
“At the same time, we have started to develop a national program aimed at the professional development of teachers. For us, teachers are at the center of the entire system and support, whether in terms of financial motivation, but above all for professional development, reviewing the framework of qualifications, as well as the possibility that new teachers in the system are trained more quickly to achieve high levels of teaching, but also to improve teaching techniques throughout the cycle that they provide their services in our education system. It is very important for us that the national program, which will be presented in the month of January, affects as many teachers as possible. There will be about 4000 teachers this year that we want to include in this continuous training and education system. We are focusing on teachers of mathematics, science, Albanian language, technology and information to increase digital skills and the possibility of adapting and modernizing the curriculum framework, which is another important objective of the Ministry of Education and Sports and all its institutions”, said Minister Manastirliu.
At the end of the meeting, the teachers expressed the importance of these trainings and their maximum commitment to become part of the international assessment “TALIS 2024”.
